Description

Do you love telling stories? Do you have ideas in your head that you don’t know how to put down on paper? Whether that be an idea for a short story, or a scene/play, this is the class for you! Throughout this session, we will explore how to write short stories and short scripts. We’ll look at the similarities and differences between the two, and how we can take even the smallest ideas and run with them to create full narratives!
We’ll work on using proper grammar and sentence structure, but fear not! There are no grades in this class! The goal of this class is to give you a glimpse of what it takes to write not only short stories and scripts, but novels and full stage productions (although 10 weeks is unfortunately not enough time to write such large pieces!)

Come explore the in-depth world of creative writing this session!

*Class students who are cast in Narnia or Little Women are expected to attend their CYT class weekly.  More than one class absence may affect the student's casting/participation in the show; a scene, a dance, a role, or the show.

Teacher:

Jordan Higby

Jordan Higby is 25 years old and has been a teaching artist at CYT Tri-Valley intermittently since 2016. Jordan developed a passion for creative writing in high school, largely thanks to her creative writing teacher, Mrs. Sweetman, in 11th grade. Jordan excelled at academic writing throughout college, and even co-authored a book during her freshman and sophomore years of college! She firmly believes that we each have the ability to create stories and characters, and create new worlds using our imaginations! Jordan graduated from California Baptist University in May of 2022 with academic honors with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis in speech. She is currently earning her Masters of Arts in Strategic Communication through CBU’s Online Professional Studies Program. Her end goal is working in Social Services in the division of Child Welfare. Jordan loves teaching and sharing her love of creative writing, storytelling, dance, and theater at large. No matter where her professional life takes her, she hopes to always have the time to teach and guide the next generation of performers!
