Description

Character Creation: How to Take your Onstage Character to the Next Level!

Have you ever felt like your character in a show was missing something? Want to find a way to bring depth to your acting like never before? Then come join us!

In this course, you will learn how to create fully-developed character from start to performance! Each student will create an original character and develop a backstory, motivations, physical acting choices that fit the character, and more! Each student will then get the chance to write a short monologue to perform as their character, incorporating all their new tools into their acting choices. On our final day, we will host an in-class party where each student will come as their character and have a chance to improvise interactions using their new skills!

We will also look at scripts from different shows and learn about how to develop a character backstory from little hints throughout an existing  script.

Come play with us, and take your onstage characters to the next level!

Instructor: Kirsten Bradford

*Class students who are cast in Narnia or Little Women are expected to attend their CYT class weekly.  More than one class absence may affect the student's casting/participation in the show; a scene, a dance, a role, or the show.

Kirsten Bradford

Kirsten has loved all things theater, music, and dance her entire life. She has been blessed with amazing performance opportunities and loves sharing light and joy with audiences. Some favorites have been Maria in The Sound of Music (with her daughter as Gretl!), Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, Martha in the West Coast Premiere of Rob Gardner’s Lamb of God Oratorio, and Marian Paroo in The Music Man. Kirsten holds a degree in English: Creative Writing, which she loves to use to develop characters on stage. When not involved in theater, she enjoys writing, sewing costumes, directing church choirs, Star Wars, Disneyland, and her endlessly supportive husband and amazing two daughters. Sharing theater experiences with them is her favorite!
