In this class, students will explore how different body movements, postures, orientations, and presentations impact the character being portrayed. Everyone from the main role to the ensemble in a show have the opportunity to leave an impression on the audience with their stage presence and physicality. Learning how to embody different characters is key in enhancing your abilities as an actor. We will also explore acting in dance, and how to convey emotions through dance movements. Come learn some fundamental acting and dancing skills!
AGE POLICY: This class is designed for students 8-12. Students must be at least 8 years old by the first day of class. Staff monitors registration and will disenroll any student who doesn't fit the required age range. Classes fill quickly, so space in another class may not be available. Please make sure your student is the correct age before registering.
Jordan Higby is 23 years old and has been a teaching artist at CYT Tri-Valley intermittently since 2016. Jordan has trained in both classical and contemporary ballet for 18 years at Livermore School of Dance under Shelly Schoendienst and Brittany Bond-Braatz, where she is now on staff as an instructor.
After graduating high school, Jordan attended Contra Costa Medical Career College where she earned her certification and license as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). She then began her Undergraduate degree at Las Positas College where she attended for 2 years. In September of 2020, she transferred to California Baptist University. Jordan graduated from CBU with academic honors in May of 2022 with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis in speech. She hopes to go back to school next year to earn her Masters in Strategic Communication in the hopes of working in the Child Welfare system.
Jordan loves teaching and sharing her love of dance and theater. No matter where her professional life takes her, she hopes to always have the time to teach and guide the next generation of performers!
