Description

Develop your acting, dancing, and singing skills as we mount a mini production of "Bye Bye Birdie", the classic musical about 1950s rock and roll, teenagers, and small town America. In this class we'll play theater games, practice ensemble and solo singing, learn choreography and have the chance to choreograph our own dances, experiment with improvisation, and much more - all while rehearsing an eight minute version of "Bye Bye Birdie." We'll work together to narrate a fun synopsis of the story and perform the songs "The Telephone Hour", "Put on a Happy Face", "Hymn for a Sunday Evening", "Kids", "A Lot of Livin'" and "Everything is Rosie." Whether you're brand new to theater or you've been in 20 shows - this class is for you!

Teacher:

Jennifer Sloat

Jenny Sloat was first bitten by the theater bug at age 11 when she was cast as "Ratty" in "The Wind in the Willows." She spent her middle and high school years performing in community theater productions around the East Bay and then moved over to the director's chair after graduating from Biola University. She ran a free kids' community theater program for over a decade while serving as Director of Children’s Ministries at Creekside Community Church in San Leandro and has recently directed shows for her homeschool co-op. Jenny loves theater because of the confidence it builds, the friendships it develops, and how it gives every kid the opportunity to showcase their unique talents and gifts! Some of Jenny’s favorite things include homeschooling her 3 kids, hanging out with her husband, exploring Bay Area museums, leading kids’ Bible studies, Disneyland, and drinking way too much hot chocolate.
