Description

Sight singing is the skill of singing simply by looking at the written music. It is the practice of reading music notation and translating it to the sung note. In this class, we will cover the basics of solfege and music notation and apply it to three- and four-part choral songs. Our showcase will be a performance of the songs we've learned without the use of a keyboard! Previous singing experience is encouraged, but all levels of singers are welcomed.

Returning sight-singing students can sign up again! We'll be performing new songs!

please note: NO CLASS on Tuesday, October 7th

Rita Baird

Rita Baird is a piano teacher, writer, and mother of 9. She loves teaching CYT classes, coordinating CYT camp, and being vocal director for CYT shows! Rita was in her high school production of "Fiddler on the Roof" and has loved the stage ever since. She is a graduate of Monte Vista High School (in Danville) and UC Berkeley, where she studied music and sang in the University Chorus, Chamber Chorus, and madrigal group. More recently, she wrote a new musical based on E. Nesbit's classic novel "Five Children and It". Rita also plays on the music team at Altamont Bible Church in Livermore, and she especially loves making music with others and singing a new song to the Lord!
