Description

Auditions don’t have to be nerve-wracking. Learn to get excited about auditions by honing your preparation skills and learning how to go into auditions feeling confident. We will learn how to be smart about choosing audition material (which also includes some lessons in the history and progression of musical theatre). We will tackle how to calm our nerves, create a warm-up, and work with an accompanist, as well as how to approach cold readings and a dance call. What should you wear? What about a video submission? Auditions are the most fun homework ever! Ms. Genoa has been on both sides of the audition table for many years, from the Bay Area to New York, and has learned that, from audition notice to landing a role, auditioning is an art that actors can learn to love!

Teacher:

Genoa Sperske

Genoa Sperske is excited to be a part of CYT! Genoa is passionate about dance, theatre, and arts education. After graduating from UC Irvine with degrees in dance and drama (musical theatre emphasis) and performing in Southern California, she began her journey as a choreographer and teaching artist. She currently works a teaching artist for San Francisco Ballet's Dance In Schools and Communities program and Luna Dance Institute. She has choreographed for local community theatres and is a resident choreographer for Valley Dance Theatre, where she is an instructor as well. When not enjoying family time (husband, three kids, three pets), she likes doing karate, playing board games, and reading.
