Description

Everybody has a story to tell! Whether it be fiction, non-fiction, or a blend between the two, we all have ideas worth sharing. In this class, we will dive into how to unlock and unleash the stories you have to share! Through the tried and true 6 step story structure, students will gain insight into accessing their creative storytelling space. Through exercises in free writing, solo writing, group writing, writing games, and more, students will write, refine, and edit their stories to be as cohesive as possible. Our showcase will culminate in small group scenes consisting of stories and scripts the students themselves write!
Come unlock your creative potential and take your turn writing the stories audiences see on stage!

Teacher:

Jordan Higby

Jordan Higby is 27 years old and has been a teaching artist at CYT Tri-Valley since 2016. Jordan’s passion for the arts began at age 6 when she began dancing ballet at Livermore School of Dance (LSOD). Now, 20 years later, ballet remains an integral part of who she is, so much so that she is now a ballet teacher on staff at LSOD herself! She also enjoys dancing and teaching lyrical, jazz, musical theater, and tap dance! Aside from dance, Jordan is passionate about creative writing. Her love for creative writing began at age 15 during her high school creative writing class (shoutout to Mrs. Sweetman!). She firmly believes that we all have stories to tell, and we all possess the ability to tell those stories! When not teaching at LSOD and CYT, Jordan can be found substitute teaching for the Livermore school district! Jordan graduated from California Baptist University (CBU) in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, and a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication in 2024. Her end goal is working in Social Services in the division of Child Welfare. No matter where her professional life takes her, she hopes to always have the time to teach and guide the next generation of performers!
