Do you like to write? Poetry, short stories, journal entries, comedy or drama scripts, music, lyrics, memoir writing? This class presents key elements of creative writing and storytelling including effective writing techniques that will enhance your original work. The class will also include learning how to engage a listening audience and prepare a written piece for presentation or performance. Learning to critique other's writings and reviews of excerpts of other published authors' writings and styles are a part of the class. Students will be invited to share their written work with members of the class and will interact with other class members through listening to their work and lending their personal perspectives in a positive environment. Writers at all levels are invited.
Martha McDowell’s passion is glorifying God through creative arts particularly in musical theater, drama. directing and writing.. She has been a children's choir director and music director since 1983 for local churches and youth theater programs. In her 26 years involvement in community theatre Martha has played roles in productions with 17 companies in the Bay Area. Martha has served as drama director and choreographer for the elementary musicals at Fremont Christian School for the past three years and has taught Vocal Music, Drama and Writing classes and was on staff for two summers at Theater Camp for CYT. Martha has been a writer since she was a child, winning a first prize award for her submission to a local Christian radio station at the age of 10. She has had her poetry published and came in second in a nationwide contest sponsored by Women's Day magazine. She is currently writing memoirs pieces about her unique and non-traditional parents and childhood. This tap dancing, ukulele, piano playing grandmother and aspiring writer is looking forward to being a partner with CYT in their mission for teaching quality theatre arts while reflecting the Creator.
