Class Description

Students will start with their own character, idea, or memory and create a written piece that can be presented or performed. Presentation could include reading your written work that engages the audience or portraying the narrator as a character using dialogue and action. Class will include the process of writing personal narrative, developing and improving writing and improvising a written piece for presentation or performance. Students will be invited to share their written work with members of the class and will interact with other class members through listening to their work and lending their personal perspectives in a positive environment. Reading or performing original work is encouraged but not mandatory.

Martha McDowell

Martha McDowell’s passion is glorifying God through creative arts particularly in musical theater and choir. She has been a children's choir director and music director since 1983 for local churches and youth theater programs. In her 27 years involved in community theatre Martha has played roles in 45 productions with 17 companies in the Bay Area. Martha has been drama director and choreographer for the elementary musicals at Fremont Christian School for the past three years and has taught Vocal Music and was on staff this summer at Theater Camp for CYT. This tap dancing, ukulele, piano playing Grandma is looking forward to being a partner with CYT in their mission for teaching quality theatre arts while reflecting the Creator.
