Class Description

Are you ready for a NEW and exciting online performance experience? Well, get ready for CYT Tri-Valley’s first LIVE, ONLINE play: WONDER !

WONDER by R.J. Palacio is an award winning book, a fantastic movie, and now an amazing online play!

WONDER tells the touching story of Auggie Pullman, an ordinary kid who loves Star Wars, his dog and his family. But Auggie was born with a facial difference that up until now has prevented him from attending a mainstream school. The play centers around Auggie’s transition into middle school, where he confronts the social challenges that come with having an extraordinary appearance. This story is a masterclass in the power of empathy, kindness, and the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a “hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can’t blend when you’re born to stand out” !

We’ll rehearse and perform WONDER from the familiar comfort of our Zoom boxes, providing a close-up theatrical experience for our live audience to enjoy in real time on Sunday, June 6th @ 7pm.  All students must be available on this day to perform.

Each actor will need his/her own Zoom connection and reliable Wi-Fi to minimize any problems during the live performance.  Roles will be cast from auditions during the first rehearsal on Monday, March 29.  Cast size is limited.

Sign up to join Ms. Lana in this one-of-a-kind, WONDER-ful adventure in children’s theatre!

Additional Dates:

Final Dress Rehearsal  - Saturday, June 5 @ 3:00
Performance - Sunday, June 6 @ 7:00

Lana Ivashin-King

Lana is thrilled to be part of CYT and the amazing blessing that comes with introducing children and teenagers to the theatre. Lana spent much of her youth participating in acting and music workshops, being guided by wonderful singing coaches and excellent drama teachers along the way. As a young adult, Lana auditioned her way into many Bay Area community theatre productions, growing into expanding roles in both dramatic and musical/comedy productions. Her favorite roles are from shows for young audiences: Cinderella, Snow White and other characters from classic Fairy Tales. Lana is delighted to bring years of experience to CYT. But mostly she is " thrilled to help your child realize their amazing potential and help them find their unique gifts... the theatre can be a beautiful place for a young actor's light to shine. " Lana has been a teacher and director for CYT for 3 years. She is also a mom and a pediatric nurse at Stanford Children's Hospital. She has Bachelor Degrees in both Human Development and Nursing, and a Masters Degree in Psychology.
